The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs hosted the NGO Human Rights Forum at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on March 7, 1998, the eve of International Women’s Day.  In the Women and Human Rights Panel, a coalition of organisations participating in the Women’s Human Rights Campaign called on the Irish Government to demonstrate a real and practical commitment to women’s human rights concerns by developing (in conjunction with women’s organisations) a National Action Plan to implement the Beijing Platform for Action (agreed at the 1995 UN Conference on Women’s Rights).  The campaign issued a press release to coincide with the NGO Human Rights Forum, and its efforts were highlighted in an article that appeared in the Irish Times.  A report of the forum is currently being prepared.
